In my work as a health physicist, I do a lot of public speaking and interact with the public on issues related to development of uranium mining and milling ("uranium recovery") in the U.S. Understandingly, the public has important concerns about this. In a "question and answer" format below, I have tried to capture what are some of the most common concerns heard from citizens and address them based on the best scientific information we have, representing information well documented in peer-reviewed scientific literature and consensus positions from both national and international scientific standard setting bodies and related committees.
