As an active participant in the NMA CORESafety framework, Barrick Gold North America has set an objective of sustaining no fatalities, while also continuing its downward trend of eliminating all potential fatal incidents.

In June 2015, Barrick outlined its Fatal Risk Management Plan at an NMA-sponsored workshop in Washington, D.C. Included in the plan is the process for identifying lifesaving controls, which the company is closely aligning with the recently-released ICMM guide on Critical Control Management (CCM).

The Barrick plan integrates a 27-step process that corresponds closely with the ICMM definition of true, critical controls as outlined in the CCM Guide. Both documents are also closely tied to the CORESafety Module 4, concerning fatality prevention and risk management.
