Index / Uranium (Nuclear Minerals) / Other, RTGs, Thorium, Helium-3 and Fusion Research

There are many so-called "Generation IV" nuclear reactor designs being studied to replace the world's aging fleet of light water nuclear power plants. Light water nuclear reactors use ordinary H2O to moderate nuclear fission, for cooling, and to create steam for running turbines. All of the newer reactor designs have clear advantages over the old light water standard. China and South Africa are rapidly perusing meltdown proof pebble bed reactor technology, and the Idaho National Laboratory is experimenting with prismatic block reactors, reported to be even more efficient and stabl... Formed in 1977, EMD offered technical information, publications, & meeting programs to its members covering the alternate energy resources of the day, i.e., coal & lignite, uranium, & geothermal energy. Beginning as early as the late 1970s, certain geographical areas with geological indications of unconventional carbon-based energy resources (especially in the black-shale basins of the U.S. and Canada) began to be examined and drilled with surprisingly favorable results. With time, the natural gas industry began to recognize the opportunities. The unconventional resources occur as:... More →

Over the past few years, C&A personnel (now I2M Associates personnel) noticed an increase in the number of poorly written, inaccurate, and deceptive articles that were produced by various types of media on the subject of nuclear power, uranium exploration and mining, and associated environmental issues. These reports came from the national media, national and local adversarial groups, local citizen's groups and the attorneys who represent them. Because they all seem to have many shortcomings in common, C&A personnel began in 2007 to examine them in some detail. Effective April 1, 2010,... More →

A relative perspective - a 1994 Report on the Japanese Strategic Uranium Reserve: A Safe and Economic Alternative to Plutonium, Science & Global Security, Volume 5, pp.1-31, by Paul Leventhal and Steven Dolley.

Japan could acquire a 50-year reserve of low-enriched uranium fuel for its nuclear
power plants at about half the cost of its plutonium program, providing energy security
and major economic and political benefits. Fuel for light-water reactors made with plutonium costs four to eight times as much as conventional uranium fuel.

Japan can develop a Stra... More →
