Jude Clemente reports that he has documented how California is a natural gas state. Yet, not the panacea some like to claim, the rise in wind and solar power in the state is also quite an achievement, although minor impact at present. For many years, he has relentlessly described how oil, coal, and natural gas have enhanced our lives, more people, living longer, living better, but the reality is that we must support ALL energy sources. Each one has pros and cons. Again, a rising 85% of the global population lives in undeveloped nations, where energy deprivation kills.

Steve Cicala reports that in the early days of electricity, it was difficult to transmit electricity long distances. So it made sense to build power plants close to population centers and transport fuel over these great distances via rail or barge. Over time it got cheaper to transmit electricity, but the regulatory framework has been slow to catch up and largely continues to treat power generation as a local issue.

The impact of this historical approach is evident when looking at where coal comes from today, and where it is eventually burned. Twenty-five counties in just a handful ... More →
