This anti-nuclear blog reports that the alleged U.S.G.S. laboratory fraud included a study about uranium in the environment and included ISL samples (In situ leach uranium), uranium environmental task force and much more. It is unclear if the ISL research was for proposed ISL uranium mining or for historic or both. One specific study mentioned was assessment of uranium in the environment in and around Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona for possible groundwater restoration.

Anyone who has followed this blog for awhile has learned, if they never knew it before, that you can not tru... More →

Sid Perkins reports that early in the spring of 1961, a group of geologists started drilling a hole into the seafloor off the Pacific coast of Baja California. The expedition, the first if its kind, was the initial phase of a project intended to punch through Earth crust and reach the underlying mantle. Little did they know that their efforts would soon be overshadowed when John F. Kennedy launched the race to the moon in May of that year.

By the end of 1972, after expending billions of dollars and via the collective effort of thousands of scientists and engineers, six Apollo missio... More →

AP reported that a worker at a federal laboratory in Denver area, Colorado intentionally manipulated test results for years, possibly tainting research on toxic metals in the Everglades, uranium near the Grand Canyon and coal in Afghanistan, investigators say. The falsified data from a U.S. Geological Survey lab may have affected 24 coal, water and environmental research projects costing a total of $108 million, according to a report released recently by the Interior Department Inspector General.

The agency is not sure why the employee falsified the results of chemical analyses, but... More →

This publication consists of maps and text describing possible undiscovered and known ore deposits, mineral-development issues, public health and safety issues such as asbestos, mercury, and open-pit mines, the role of calcium, as well as the hazards posed by volcanoes and earthquakes in the Sierra Nevada ecosystem. Maps of likely undiscovered and known deposits of gold, copper, sulfide, and others show the present distribution of such ores and are useful in metal-supply issues, water quality studies, and planning for avoiding environmental hazards. Information on exploration shows potential f... More →

Earth water is always in movement, and the natural water cycle, also known as the hydrologic cycle, describes the continuous movement of water on, above, and below the surface of the Earth. Water is always changing states between liquid, vapor, and ice, with these processes happening in the blink of an eye and over millions of years.

This scientific integrity incident has had numerous real and potential adverse impacts on customers, products, and the organizational integrity of USGS, as these pertain to coal and water quality research and assessments. Nevertheless, quick and decisive action on our recommendation will help restore confidence in the Bureau.

They determined that the scientific misconduct and data manipulation at the lab also impacted USGS organizational integrity in ways that are still unfolding and challenging to quantify. We did identify the following ultimate impacts ...

In 2016, the estimated value of total nonfuel mineral production in the U.S. of $74.6 billion was a slight increase from the revised total of $73.4 billion in 2015.

Increased construction activity spurred increased production of industrial minerals, especially those used in infrastructure and residential construction. Although starting the year relatively low, prices for several metals, especially for some of the precious metals, began to trend upward.

Decreased production of most metals produced in the U.S., however, contributed to an overall decline in the value of me... More →
